Open Positions in the Lab

The Gillan Lab is currently recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for a 2-year position in the area of large-scale smartphone-based cognitive testing and Alzheimer’s Disease detection. The official advertisement is here; get in touch with Claire for further information. Start-date is flexible, but the sooner the better.

The postdoctoral fellow will take a lead role in a project aimed at developing a smartphone-based infrastructure for cognitive research in ageing and dementia. Working directly with a software-developer, the fellow will be responsible for the scientific integrity of gamified versions of state-of-the-art cognitive (and computationally formal) tests, their initial validation and publication.

The postdoctoral fellow will integrate these data with family history, clinical self-
report measurement, and passively collected patterns of smartphone use (from which we can estimate sleep, exercise and other lifestyle factors) from vast numbers of individuals around the world. In smaller samples, these measures will be validated against genetic and neurobiological markers (including MRI and CSF).

The postdoc will be encouraged to put their own stamp on the project,  building on their area of research expertise. The post comes with an opportunity to undertake additional projects outside of the main app-based project. The position may be extended beyond the initial 2 years, pending funding outcomes.

We are also currently seeking a software developer on the same project. Applicants should have experience with smartphone app (and ideally game) development, and an interest in cognitive neuroscience and brain health is a plus. The post is funded for 1 year initially. Further details to follow shortly, but in the meantime, get in touch with Claire for further information.

Fellowship Opportunities for PhD and Postdocs

Funding for postdocs is available from the Irish Research Council under the Government of Ireland scheme. Applications are due on the 30th of November; please get in touch ASAP if you are interested in applying. A similar scheme runs for PhD student fellowships. However, the 2017 deadline has now passed (November 1st). Get in touch if you are thinking of applying next year.
